HOT BLOODED REMAKE: River City Ransom SP - Are We Having Fun Yet?

DOWNTOWN NEKKETSU MONOGATARI SP
Nintendo 3DS [Beat 'Em Up] Release: June 2nd, 2016

Developed by Arc System Works, it's safe to say that gamers can expect the same attention to detail on this remake as they've seen on the developer's other action and fighting titles; in Japan, Arc Systems has already been making other Kunio titles (All Star Special) so this remake is in good hands, especially if it's to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of this venerable series.

In Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari SP, the original Famicom/NES title has been lovingly recreated for today's expectations. Aside from the new details to sprites, updated graphics, and smoother animations exhibiting an additional level of complexity, a wealth of added extra features are now available; fans of the first title will find so much more than just nostalgia, and newcomers will be taken aback by how deep this beat 'em up actually is.

The biggest change are the combat differences. There are new techniques and combos, as well as unseen Special Moves. If these special moves are used over and over, they will evolve and become explosive Super Special Moves, perfect for when single handedly taking out an entire gang.

There's also the introduction of consecutive attacks which allow players to extend their combos to overpowering levels; the other new feature to combat are the Nekketsu counters, to be used when swarmed by enemies, essential for the tougher more aggressive gangs later in the game.

There's also changes to the traditional way of leveling up; before, players had to beat up thugs, take their cash, and then go to any of the many local stores for consumable items that would increase stats. This still remains and is now bolstered but he introduction of EXP which acts in the same way as consumable items. On top of this, players can also equip specific items - either bought or as enemy drops; each piece of equipment adds bonus skills for extra character depth and development.

Aside from the graphical updates, there's also new areas and event scenes; to take it even further, Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari SP even features Day/Night cycles, so expect to see events exclusive to certain times, pushing this title towards a more action rpg vibe.

Finally, there's a brand new VS mode called "Fighting of Double Dragon 2016" which is a 2D fighting game mode featuring all 14 characters including gang bosses, each with their own move set and super special moves. Speaking of playing together, the story mode can be co-op according to Arc System Works, and both modes can be accessed via download play or local ad hoc.

With all this new content in an already proven game, players who enjoy a fast paced beat em up with a level of complexity that has inspired almost every other beat em to come afterwards, Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari SP is the end all be all. The only thing missing now is for Arc System Works to localize it!
Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari SP (Nintendo 3DS™, JPN)  US$ 38.99 pre

Mega Man Legends 2 Is Finally Out On PSN~

Amongst the list of great games featured on the US PlayStation Store this month, the one title that really catches our eye is the release of the PSOne classic: Mega Man Legends 2 for the PlayStation 3!

For many Mega Man fans, Legends 2 eliicits a mixture of feelings; aside from being a fantastic game in it's own right, it's the last one of the Legend spin off series to exist, as the follow up, Mega Man Legends 3 never made it out due to political reasons between Capcom and Inafune, head of Mega Man at the time. However painful, it's nice to see this classic game out on the PS Store, and if you haven't played it before, it's currently $9.99 and totally worth it.

Following the events of Mega Man Legends, this action adventure game is a 3D take on the traditional 2D Mega Man experience; characters are fully voiced and realized. With a alternate take on the relationship of Mega Man and Roll as they journey as Diggers - specialist who delve deep into ancient labyrinths filled with Reavers, malevolent robots who protect secrets from the past - players will embark on a story filled with emotion, humor, action, and even suspense. In many cases, this title reflects a sort of golden age for Capcom, and to this day, the polish this game has still stands.

Not only are the missions action packed, there's also a wealth of minigames, customization, and side quests; there's also a fantastic side cast featuring Tron Bonne and her Servbots (their performance was so good in MML2 that it even lead to their own spin-off title: The Misadventures of Tron Bonne - another awesome game).

We highly recommend this game, even if it's your first Mega Man game; when you're done with this, you'll understand why there are still so many fans petitioning Capcom for Mega Man Legends 3 - us included! #LEGENDSNEVERDIE

Kangokuto Mary Skelter is set in a universe where 1999's Japan is home to cities such as 'Jail,' a living prison that was birthed and then subsequently swallowed by the earth and buried 666 meters below ground. As a result of this cataclysmic event hostile monsters known a "Marchen" began to appear, threatening the safety of humans. Kangokuto Mary Skelter follows male protagonist 'Jack' and heroines several decades after this massive event as they aim to escape their prison-home. Romance Of The Three Kingdoms XIII Westward Bound!

ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS XIII
PlayStation®4 [Turn Based Strategy] Release: July 5th, 2016 (US)

For 30 years, the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series have taken players into the world based on the beloved Chinese novel of the same name; to be a part of one of the most tumultuous times of history and privy to the political machinations between power-hungry factions makes for a perfect strategic experience, especially when each iteration of the game brings about new additions to the grand scheme of unifying 2nd century China.

Regardless of their familiarity with the source material, any fan of the strategy genre will appreciate the vast nuances in Koei Tecmo's historical opus; a challenging and rewarding mix of historically accurate warfare and deep gameplay, players will find themselves blissfully taken aback by all the options available in this timeless tale come game. In a macro and micro sense, cites can be built and developed, alliances maintained or betrayed, and armies - that which features a wide variety spanning from infantry, cavalry, artillery, and even navy - can be done via conscription or recruitment. Diplomacy and intrigue also offer a multitude of choices, with historical characters retaining their quirks and personalities, and can be facilitated through bribery, coercion, flattery, and more.

With already a huge wealth of content, even if a player sticks to the default Campaign mode, a mode where players follow the events of the novel, with Hero mode, replayability becomes just as inviting as all the aforementioned features. Hero mode allows players to create their own destiny within this pivotal time, and gives them the chance to play out an alternate path of history to their choosing.

Of course, like all Romance of the Three Kingdom games that feature many of the characters from the novels, in XIII, there are over 700 historical characters including mainstay fan-favorites like Liu Bei, Cao Cao, Zhao Yun, and more; if you're like us though, you'd create your own unique character and build up your own version of the Middle Kingdom.

Releasing for the West this July, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII not only offers a rich strategy experience, but with the power of the PS4, it's a strategy game like no other, and console players should definitely look forward to this if they enjoy a game of such amazing scope!

Ni-Oh's Upcoming Alpha Demo with DLC Bonus!

NIOH
PlayStation®4 [Action Adventure, Hack and Slash] Release: Q4 2016 (TBA)

Those who remember the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo will recall the hype behind this historical action adventure; in preparation for it's canceled PS3 2006 release, a pre-rendered CG trailer showed Ni-Oh as a game about a blond-haired samurai - the offspring of a Western Woman and Japanese Lord set during the Warring States Era of Japan - and was based on an unfinished script of renowned Japanese film auteur, Akira Kurosawa.

Over a decade later, the finalized form of Nioh is now a difficult and dark samurai action game inspired by the original with supernatural elements designed specifically to incite trial and error; based on the reveal trailer and this description, one can almost say this is Samurai Dark Souls, Akira Kurosawa style! With the added flair of Team Ninja's dedication to perfect combat, Ni-Oh is looking to be a brutal treat for those who enjoy challenge in video games.

With hype building around this masocore title - yes, new vidya jargon fresh from Japan meaning masochistic core - Koei Tecmo is releasing the Alpha Demo later this month, available worldwide on the PlayStation Store from April 26 to May 5!

Not only will players have get a chance to enjoy a taste of this "new" IP, if they finish the demo, they will be able to download the "Mark Of The Conqueror DLC," which will allow for a special DLC unlock for when the full game launches later in the year.

And from Team Ninja themselves: "We also want to hear your feedback on the game! We will hold an online survey while the demo is available so let us know what you think and how we can make it even more fun." With this type of support,
Ni-Oh is really looking like it's going to be a great game to look forward to, especially if the Dev team are so open about improving the experience! Can't wait~~~~~

THE FORCE AWAKENS ON BLU-RAY & DVD! HK RELEASE!

Rejoice, Padawans! The long awaited return of our childhood heroes finally has a Hong Kong DVD and Blu Ray release date. Pre-orders are for April 19th!

Star Wars Episode 7 – The Force Awakens (HK Version)

For some it was "just a rehash of episode 4", for others it was a rekindling of a flame that was nearly extinguished by an interplanetary trade dispute. But no matter what side of the force you were on, "The Force Awakens" was one of the most discussed events since, well, since Episode 1 came out. But unlike the prequels, Episode 7 under-delivers on information about what's the state of the Star Wars universe.

With a Bonus Blu-Ray sporting extras like documentaries on everything from music to creature design, several featurettes, a making-of and deleted scenes, we might just know a little bit more about why Kylo Ren is such an emo.

Bullet Girls 2 trailer introduces new stage, system, items, & playable characters!

BULLET GIRLS 2
PlayStation®Vita| RELEASE: April 21, 2016

Bullet Girls 2 (PlayStation Vita, JPN)  US$ 56.99 pre

D3 Publisher has just released a seven minute second trailer for Bullet Girls 2 introducing the new "Shimakaze" stage, the "Touch Pantsu System," a whole host of new Cross-Examination items, as well as playable characters Rumi Yukishiro & Meiko Hoshikawa!

D3 Publisher is bringing one of the sexiest shooters back to the Vita, along with new characters, new actions, new systems, and the same unapologetic fanservice from the first Bullet Girls!

The title follows a group of girls belonging to the "Ranger Club," a school organization dedicated to training its members in defensive tactics. Just like the first game players will take control these girls and their guns on various third person military exercises consisting of armored tanks, choppers, bazookas, grenades, and more!

While the shooting is great fun, unarguably the main appeal of Bullet Girls is the clothes destruction mechanic. Battle damage inflicted reveals specific parts of the girls' clothing; this can be targeted to reveal specific areas. To take it one step further, interrogation mini games revolve around groping and touching the girls as well as feeding them suggestive objects such as bananas, popsicles and fish sticks. The Interrogation System in Bullet Girls 2 has been expanded to include even more available situations. D3 Publisher has also teased further systems and updates that "users have been waiting for."

As for the previously mentioned undergarments, just like the previous title, players can build a collection by destroying the corresponding parts of enemy targets during missions. Not only just cosmetic, with over 120 different varieties (making for over 14,400 combinations) these bras and panties offer stat and gameplay bonuses, so there's definitely an added value incentive which can be used to strengthen and support your characters on the field.

With these new details, it looks like this guns, anime, and fanservice title is becoming something that fans of this genre can really enjoy. Get in position and pre-order before the April release~

The moment all Final Fantasy XIV such as ourselves have been waiting for is finally here! Taito announced the first volume of Final Fantasy XIV Deformed Figure to be released in August 2016!

Taito does not ever fail to deliver quality to their merchandises either, so we're absolutely certain that they will not disappoint at all!

Did you guys also notice that it mentions Volume 1? Every time Taito does this like they did with the Minion Mascots, it definitely means there will be more. Just like how Naoki Yoshida (director of the game) went to a shrine to pray for the success of Final Fantasy XIV, we at Play-Asia.com are praying hard for Tataru and Papalymo! (Who doesn't love lalafells?!)
