A review of the gaming scene of 2011 - Action adventures, shooters, racers, RPGs, fighters and everything in between

Welcome to this week's Games Update, our weekly summary featuring all new product arrivals from the last seven days. Since the game developers are still on their winter breaks, there is scarcely anything coming this week. But this is just as well, 2011 is full of games, lets take this chance to do a small review and see if you have missed anything.

Early in the year, we have seen the release of the Nintendo 3DS and an influx of Japanese games. There are lovely girls in Arcana Hearts 3 in wrestling matches. Mechas are at war with each other throughout the year, the first to come is the Sony PSP version of Another Century's Episode and much later in the year, Gundam Extreme VS.

Dead Space 2 also came before the winter chills were over, so head off there to face some unknown menaces. Phantasy Star Portable 2 and the SD Gundam G Generation World fly gamers into space and battles. And for people who loves brain twisters and saucy women, there is always Catherine.

Final Fantasy characters come together to fight in DuoDecim 012. Some of them become aides to Sora in Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded and Birth By Sleep Final Mix. There are zombies to be fought in Undead Nightmare, dragons to be slain in Dragon Age II, tyrants to overthrow in Last Story, and mob bosses to be fought in Yakuza 4.

Delve into the brush paintings in Okamiden, fight some swordsmen as Ruroni Kenshin and there are more classical goodness in Final Fantasy IV Complete Collection. As the year starts to warm up, more fighters join the fun. There is Continuum Shift II, Street Fighter IV 3D and Mortal Kombat.

When the summer comes, the brain twisters rolled in. There is Portal 2 and L.A. Noire. Sit in the comfort of your home and shoot down enemies in Akai Katana Shin, or venture into the dark tower Pandora no Tou. Zombies hunting is a year-round sport, so head to Biohazard 3D Mercenaries and Ryu no Gotoku Of The End.

All the highlights roll in during the autumn and winter seasons. Tales of Xillia, Uncharted 3, Dark Souls, Saint Seiya Senki, Musou Orochi 2 and Gears of War 3 are but a few. 2011 also sees a lot of Revival Selections, there is ICO and Shadows of the Colossus, Biohazard Revival Selections and Gears of War Triple Pack.

The list is by no means exhaustive, please subscribe to the RSS feed and look forward to new titles to come in 2012.
