Compile Heart's Genkai Tokki: Seven Pirates is an RPG fanservice treasure hunt!

GENKAI TOKKI SEVEN PIRATES
PlayStation®Vita | RELEASE: SUMMER, 2016 [JPN]
Genkai Tokki Seven Pirates (PlayStation Vita, JPN)  US$ 59.99 pre

With their customary nonchalance about their continual releases of games with ecchi flair, Compile Heart, makers of such lewd gems like the Moe Chronicle series just dropped a teaser trailer about their newest game for the Vita: Genkai Tokki Seven Pirates!

While an immediate impression of the scant gameplay featured so far leads to easy conclusions, producer Norihisa Kochiwa has stated, "At first glance, you might only see the game for its sex appeal, but we're thoroughly producing its contents."

A pirate girl named Parute is in the middle of a voyage to find treasure when she is dropped into the ocean by a monster child wearing a bra on its head named Otton that suddenly appears.

—And the place where she finally arrived is the "Monsupi Sea," a phantom sea rumored to be hiding treasure.
Will she find the treasure within the Monsupi Sea and return back home safely…?

Collaborating with developer Felistella, the team behind the inner RPG workings of Compile Heart's flagship RPG Neptunia, Genkai Tokki Seven Pirates aims to approach audiences who enjoy the traditional experience of Japan's favorite gaming genre, as well as those who enjoy Japan's other favorite genre: fanservice.

Speaking of the latter, of which Compile Heart is now notorious for, Seven Pirates will not feature any male characters, and opts to focus on the adventures of seven pirates on the seas infested with harems of monster girls. Even the main girls themselves are monster inspired by the likes of krakens, skeletons, and even slimes.

As such, stats and gameplay will revolve around a chest growth mechanic, and while this this has been done by other similar titles like Omega Labyrinth by D3 Publisher, Genkai Tokki Seven Pirates makes a drastic change, catering to the ever growing pattenko community.

According to producer Norihasa Kochiwa players will be able to use the Vita's touch screen functionality by thoroughly and vigorously rubbing the girls' chests to cause size changes which effect the respective character's stats. While it is expected that such action would exclusively cause the chest to grow, resulting in higher attack and defense, it is also possible to shrink in size, thus creating a character with complete superiority in speed and agility. True balance.

If anything, Compile Heart is very good at being one of the spearheads for the ecchi gaming genre, and with this new announcement, it's nice to see that they are considering all the different angles for fans to appreciate. Releasing this summer, we can't wait to report on all the information we expect to come soon!

FINAL FANTASY XV PLAY ARTS KAI
Release: Ignis July 2016; Prompto August 2016; Gladiolus 2016

Swiftly following the "Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV" event today where Square Enix revealed everything Final Fantasy XV from the PlayStation 4™/Xbox One™ game to the anime series Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV as well as the CG movie Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, their figure line Play Arts Kai also announced three action figures from Final Fantasy XV including Ignis, Gladiolus, and Prompto!

All three action figures comes with smooth flexible articulated joints so you can pose them however you like. They also include their signature weapons as well as interchangeable hand parts to allow more possibilities!

Just to get an idea how much effort Square Enix put into these men, here's their official description:

Adviser to Crown Prince Noctis, Ignis was groomed from childhood for the role. His calm and intelligent demeanor is captured in a stylish silhouette, while his bespectacled gaze exudes an air of sophistication. No effort has been spared in bringing out the color and detail in his attire, from the belt and buttons right down to the soles of his shoes, not to mention the elaborate leopard pattern.

Best friend to protagonist Noctis, Prompto comes to you with his handgun at the ready. This action figure perfectly replicates his in-game appearance, from the textures and colors of his clothes down to the detailed work in the patches, studs, and stitching. Nights Of Azure AKA Yoru No Nai Kuni Releases Today!

NIGHTS OF AZURE
PlayStation®4 [Action RPG] Release: March 29th

As the final release for this month's gamut of stellar releases, having the localized version of Koei Tecmo's well received yuri-centric action RPG ship out is the icing on the cake. Developed by Gust, Nights of Azure is a wonderful game featuring combo heavy anime stylized combat, an interesting summoning mechanic, and a tragic love story between two women, and the sacrifices they must both make.

The game's battle system has Arnice, the main character, executing chains of light, heavy, and special attacks, with the goal of building up a transformation gauge - it is then when Arnice gains the most battle prowess, as different forms release exact forms of combat styles, ranging from speed, defense, offense, ranged, and more. Each transformation is bolstered with dramatic flair, as anime transformations usually do.

This combined with many different weapons with individual move sets keep the battle fresh, and GUST does a good job at making the controls fluid, especially for such reactive gameplay. Players will also be fighting alongside summoned demons known as the Servan; as attack and support, they become stronger over each successive battle, and it's up to the player to train them for the best possible output.

Following the journey of two girls in the uncharted land Rusewall Island, a place where no one sleeps at night, Nights Of Azure focuses on Arnice, a hybrid human demon knight and her quest to protect Lilysse, a pure maiden saint who holds the key in changing the world for many tired souls. Throughout their journey however, an impossible love blossoms between them; this is a fresh departure from usual JRPG fare and a main highlight of Nights Of Azure.

With the US version releasing today, and the EU version tomorrow, if anime, story, action, and a lot of customizations are your thing, then this is definitely a title you'd might want to check out!

TOUKIDEN 2 demon-hunting returns to PlayStation with new open world!

TOUKIDEN 2
PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3 | RELEASE: JUNE 30, 2016

Toukiden 2 (PlayStation 4™, JPN)  US$ 69.99 pre
Toukiden 2 (PlayStation 3™, JPN)  US$ 69.99 pre
Toukiden 2 (PlayStation Vita, JPN)  US$ 59.99 pre

Japanese demon-hunting returns this June with another installation in the high-action Toukiden series - with much of the same hacking & slashing adored by fans, but now accompanied by something the series has been begging for: a beautiful open world map.

As the hero of Toukiden 2 the player takes control of a warrior character known as a "slayer" who fought in the Twilight Yokohama Defensive War. In the midst of battle, he leapt forward 10 years and washed ashore in a village, leaving his memory behind.

The open-world is inhabited by a number of demons known as "oni" that appear from a different world. If players encounter a demon they will be able to enter a fight with it. In fighting these oni the familiar combat mechanic of targeting specific body parts to weaken and destroy them is used, but has also received various strategic improvements.

The foreign world that will becomes both a battlefield and home for players is an incredibly dangerous place, where their actions are limited and players must build bases — from towns buried in thick forests, temples in boiling lava, and fortresses floating in the sky — to secure their foothold before expanding forward.

As a hunting action game it is only fitting that the familiar online multiplayer element remains in tact. Furthermore, a new type of co-op play is said to be planned.

ClaDun Returns To The Sengoku Era - Back At It Again With The 8-Bit Charm!

CLASSIC DUNGEON SENGOKU
PS®Vita [Action RPG] Release: May 26, 2016

Back at it again with the ClaDun, Classic Dungeon Sengoku is Nippon Ichi Software's third installment in their modern 8-bit hack and slash dungeon crawl. Perfect for portable systems, as the originals were on the PSP, this newest title will be powered by the Vita, making the retro charm of the series' signature sprites come to life even more so than before!

Taking place in the fictional world of Arcanus Cella, a limbo for spirits yet to pass on until they've resolved their regrets, and seen in all titles so far, Classic Dungeon Sengoku however departs from the previous setting of medieval fantasy into an ancient Japan. Players will guide famous Sengoku-era commanders into dungeons filled with era specific traps and monsters based on folklore.

The extremely fast real time combat returns with new additions to a familiar system. Again, we'll see the Magic Circle defensive system from previous titles, on which Vassals found in the game can be used to bolster up stats, move sets, and special spells; this is done in a separate menu where players assign their preferred vassals into slots. Additionally, in ClaDun Sengoku, players can also assign Vassals to the main character to act as shields. There's also a eight type of weapons, all with their own unique qualities: swords, blunt weapons, staffs, spears, bow and arrows, short swords, shurikens, and sickle and chains. This combined with seven starting classes - the warrior, swordsman, necromancer, aristocrat, merchant, sorcerer, and priest, creates an interesting dynamic as classes have their own skills and developement directions.

There's also a robust hub world element to ClaDun Sengoku - facilites in Arcanus Cella has all the shops needed to aid players in their quest; the newest additions to the series are the Suggestion Box, where NPCs will request help in  exchange for money, fame, and items, and the Blacksmith, used to enhance items through reforging. There's even a castle construction mechanic, where building a bigger castle equates to min/maxing a character's stats.

And with all ClaDun titles, customization is a major part; players can create highly detailed sprite based art; to find the perfect avatar to match all the different armor and weapon sets is a really nice diversion when taking a break from all the various dungeons, and a big part of this series' charm.

Releasing on May 26th, the Japanese version is confirmed to come with a special first print bonus music album, filled with great retro styled synthwave beats laced with a special Japanese flavor. For the Asia one, once we have confirmation, we'll make an update - regardless, this is a great title recommended for those who enjoy the feel of nostalgia with a deep RPG system on the go!

Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization Is More Than Virtual Reality

SWORD ART ONLINE: HOLLOW REALIZATION
PlayStation®4 PS®Vita [Action RPG] Release: Q4, 2016

SAO has been an amazing phenomenon, enjoying increased global popularity since it's conception, with no signs of it's momentum slowing down. And while it was expected that Namco Bandai would continue in publishing games for this series, the newest title looks to be the best one yet.

Going back to it's origins, Hollow Realization is a brand new story created by Reiki Kawahara, the original author of the Sword Art Online light novels; players will enter a new VRMMORPG world called "Sword Art Origin" - an alternate universe set in the games original server. As it's set in the first server, fans of this series will get a chance to see the events and stages from the very beginning of the Sword Art Online world!

With the aid of the PlayStation 4, in this highly detailed and dense world filled with dynamic environments, a rich adventure awaits. Featuring the return of SAO mainstays, Kirito, Leafa, and Asuna, as well as many other familiar faces, the beloved characters will venture forth; joining them is the debut of a mysterious new character - who is this girl, and what significance does she hold in the world of Sword Art Origin?

For gameplay, improvements have been made to ensure that battle and exploration are intense and strategic. With an already comprehensive RPG system matched with defined action elements, the scale and scope of Sword Art Online's battles are now even more explosive, with rewarding and satisfying attacks.

Hellions Be Gone! Figure of Edna from Tales of Zestiria!

TALES OF ZESTIRIA 1/8 SCALE FIGURE: EDNA
Manufacturer: Alter | Release: September 2016

We have seen figures for a few main characters such as Alisha, Sorey, and Meebo Mikleo from the game Tales of Zestiria, but it is about time that a figure of everyone's adored Earth Seraph to be announced! Releasing in September 2016, Japanese manufacturer Alter will allow the fans to enjoy having Edna by our side!

Edna's appearance are faithfully preserved in this figure from her adorable outfit to her usual emotion (or the lack of thereof). The umbrella she uses to perform her seraphic artes with is beautifully sculpted all the way to the tiny holes in the frills, and it even includes a dangling Phoenix in his silly doll form. The metal parts on Edna's oversized boots that previously belonged to her brother Eizen looks like it was made with real metal! (Although there is no official statement from Alter, I wouldn't be surprised if it is actually crafted with tiny metallic parts.)

Perhaps if you wave this figure of Edna in front of your TV or monitor while playing Tales of Zestiria, the hellions might actually cower in fear and run away in the sight of her! However, please do not try this with your house pets as Play-Asia.com will not be responsible for any house hellion damages to your precious Edna!

Ikeni To Yuki No Sestuna Is Getting A Western Release!

I AM SETSUNA
PlayStation®4 [JRPG] Release - Summer, 2016 (Video Footage and Graphics are the JPN Ver)

Great news for those of us who have been following Square Enix's recent foray into the classic RPG! Ikeni to Yuki No Setsuna has just been announced for the West, and will be coming just in time to cool of the summer heat for the PS4!

Distinctively an old school RPG with 1990's stylization, I am Setsuna is Square Enix's homage to the past, described at TGS 2015 as a "pure fantasy, true role-playing video game." Based on the roots of both Square and Enix, then this is something that all gamers can look forward to, especially those who love epic stories, indelible piano music, and the polish games of that era shared.

Taking place on a snow-bound island, immediately one can perceive that the theme of I Am Sestuna is intended to be sadness - the japanese title literally means Setsuna of Sacrifice and Snow. According to ancient customs, a maiden must be sacrificed as appeasement to demons; the game sets off with a cast of characters who accompany Setsuna, the chosen one, to the edges of the known world for her own sacrifice. How this concludes though - we have all yet to discover.

It's interesting to point out that the battle system is a modern combination of both Square Enix's famous ATB (Active Time Battle System) and the upgraded ATB 2.0 of one of the most famous JRPGs of all time: Chrono Trigger. As such, battles take place not in the overworld, but through dungeons (similar to CT) and depending on the position of the player party, different movesets can activate, so long as a character's ATB guage is filled up.

There's also a separate limit break type mechanic called the Setsuna gauge; with each action taken or when the ATB gauges is allowed to fill, a special power boost is given to the characters resulting in battle changing events like new attacks, health recovery, or massive critical attacks to the enemies.

So far, I Am Sestuna is looking to be a fantastic addition to the pantheon of Square Enix RPGs, and it's something we can all look forward to: revisiting a pure old school JRPG, especially since Japanese audiences have given it so much acclaim.
